6 Ways Trees Help The Environment

Trees help the environment in a significant way. Trees are a beautiful part of nature. Not only they make the earth look more beautiful, provide the raw material for construction, and give shelter to the wildlife. Trees help to keep the environment safe and healthy for other living creatures.
Let us see in detail how trees make the earth a better place to live.

Tress Provide Us Oxygen
Trees are responsible for filling our beloved Earth with tons of oxygen. The green plants convert light energy from the sun into mechanical energy. This process is called photosynthesis. As a result of this process, trees release oxygen into the air.
If at any time the trees stop producing oxygen, the earth would have no gaseous oxygen at all. In that case, only a few types of bacteria would survive on earth.

Remove Pollutants
During photosynthesis, not only do trees produce oxygen as a product but also absorb carbon dioxide from the environment. Trees are responsible for purifying the environment from pollutants which include Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. Trees accomplish this purification task through their leaves. Trees also remove tiny particles of organic chemicals, acids, metals, and dust.
These tiny particles can enter human bodies when humans respirate. They can cause lung and cardiovascular diseases in humans.

Habitat for Wildlife
Trees are a source of life for a variety of birds, animals, and micro-organisms. When trees are planted in an area, it makes the environment suitable for living. Wildlife is attracted to that area. Trees provide this wildlife a shelter to live in and food to nourish.
Trees enhance the growth diversity of a place. They promote the growth of other plants that would otherwise do not grow.

Food Security
Agricultural lands benefit a lot from the trees. Trees help the soil to retain more water and produce nutrients for the plants. In this way, soil fertility is increased.
Trees also help to reduce groundwater recharge. This reduces the risk of soil salinization. Soil salinity can affect the growth of plants in a negative way. Plants grown on saline soil may experience several disorders and toxicities.
Trees help to retain suitable conditions in the soil for the plants to grow and nourish. So, the plantation of trees not only provide food themselves. But also contribute to food production from agricultural plants.  This makes them an excellent food security plant.

Increase Soil Stability
Trees contribute to increasing the stability of the soil. The roots of the trees hold the surface soil and thereby adds to its strength. Trees intercept the falling rain and decrease the runoff it generates. They also help the soil to absorb water. All these factors help to fight soil erosion.
Erosion leads to the loss of agricultural land. It also increases the pollution and sedimentation in the surface water channels. This leads to the death of many aquatic species. Furthermore, degraded lands have a lesser capacity to hold water and it leads to an increased risk of flooding.

Lessening the Temperature
Trees help to reduce the temperature of our planet. They release water into the environment during photosynthesis. Which reduces the temperature of the surrounding air.
Trees also absorb the radiations from the sun and provide shade through their canopies.
